Change How You Receive Messages Through Yodel
Gain control of future messages by creating an account.
The benefit of creating a free Yodel account, as a receiver, is that it gives you so many options for controlling how you receive messages, locations for which you receive messages, and who is allowed to send you messages.
Receiving Postcards in the Mail
The very first message you receive from Yodel probably came in postal mail as a postcard. This is the default sending method for Yodel. When a sender selects an audience for a local message, Yodel will check to see if a recipient has selected a preference for receiving messages. If no preference is found, a postcard will be sent to the street address.
Receiving via Email
Maybe you prefer to receive messages in email. Maybe you like to prevent the waste of physical mail, or just prefer to limit the number of items you receive in your mailbox. After you create a Yodel account, you can easily mark your receiving notification preference as receiving email instead of physical mail. You will also want to mark yourself as a "sole recipient" (see below).
Receiving Through SMS Text
You may prefer to receive messages as SMS text. This is another great way to reduce physical waste from mailed postcards. Once you have logged in to your Yodel account, you can mark your receiving notification preference as texting. You will also want to mark yourself as a "sole recipient" (see below).
Marking Yourself as "Sole Recipient" of a Location
Yodel allows for a variety of situations. As a receiver, you may be interested in more than one location (home, work, school, a common route you take, or interest in a family member's local area). That means that some of the locations you keep track of may not be your primary address, and there may be others at the address who should also be alerted to messages for their local community.
Within your account receiving locations, you can mark yourself as a "sole recipient" for an address. The benefit of doing so is that it will prevent Yodel from sending a postcard to the address if you've set your notifications to receive through email or text instead.
Once you check the box for "sole recipient", Yodel will send a mailed postcard to the address to verify that you are the owner of the location. This is a security measure to make sure that other interested recipients at the location are not prevented from receiving messages that may be important to them.
If you change your notifications for receiving via email or text without verifying yourself as the "sole recipient", then Yodel will continue to send a postcard to the mailing address to ensure the resident or owner of the location receives messages that may affect them.
Changing Your Receiving Mailing Address
You may choose to monitor locations other than your home address, or you may have a need to receive such messages at a different location, such as a Post Office Box (PO Box).
Yodel allows you to update your account settings with an alternate receiving address. When set, this address will be used for any messages set to receive postcards where your receiving locations are within the selected audience.
Unsubscribing or Opting Out From All Messages Through Yodel
If you want to unsubscribe or opt-out of all messages sent through Yodel, you can change your notification preferences to not send messages via postcard, email, or SMS text. This would mean you'll only see messages for your locations when you log in to the Yodel website or application.
