Content Guidelines

There are a number of laws and regulations in the U.S. through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state governments that protect consumers and residents. These laws help regulate unsolicited bulk mailings, unwanted direct mail, and other undesirable communications. These types of negative messages are often referred to as junk mail or spam.

The laws and regulations also protect against scammers with fraudulent schemes or deceptive intent.

Keep in mind that there are protected audiences and restricted topics when it comes to direct messaging.

As a sender, it is in your best interest to abide by these guidelines because recipients have options for opting out of messages that they do not like, which narrows your audience. Sending messages that people do not want is an unnecessary expense. In some cases, the receiver may also be able to file complaints at the state or federal level. Deceptive messages can incur hefty penalties and fines.

Yodel's approval process for senders and messages ensures compliance with such laws and regulations. This protects you, as the sender, and your audiences. The approval review also aims to check for quality and best practices to help make your message send as effective as possible.
